DOHA: The Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) at Qatar University (QU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), organised a seminar titled ‘Seminar in Animal Research’ at the QU Library Building as part of its ongoing scientific seminar series aimed at advancing animal research and promoting best practices in the field.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Mohamed Al-Safran, Assistant Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, who pointed out the importance of ethical and well-designed animal research in driving innovation and supporting translational discoveries that benefit human health.
Several experts delivered presentations on key topics in animal research. Dr. Akil Dahir, Consultant of Health Research in the Department of Health Research Regulatory at MoPH, discussed ethical standards in animal research and the translation of preclinical findings into human clinical studies. Dr. Vijay Govindharajan, attending veterinarian at LARC, presented on the use of rodent models in translational research.
Dr. Hamda Aboujassoum, Research Assistant Professor at LARC, highlighted the principles of experimental design in animal research and outlined the infrastructure supporting laboratory-based studies. Omar Mohamed Omar, Senior Statistician of Health Research in the Department of Health Research Regulatory at MoPH, presented on the appropriate use of statistical tests in animal research.
The seminar aimed to promote knowledge exchange among researchers and to strengthen ethical and scientific best practices in animal research in Qatar. The event also provided a platform for fostering collaboration between QU and MoPH in advancing biomedical research aligned with national health priorities.
The Laboratory Animal Research Center will continue to host seminars and workshops to enhance scientific collaboration, support research capacity building, and contribute to the ethical advancement of animal studies in Qatar.
