Doha: Hosts Al Sadd beat Oceania title holders Sydney University Handball Club 27-22 on the opening day to make it to the semi-finals of the 2018 IHF Super Globe Championships yesterday.
The eight-team competition began yesterday in Doha.
Earlier, defending champions Barca Lassa and last year's runners up Füchse Berlin also booked their places in the semi-finals after convincing wins yesterday. Barca Lassa beat Bahraini debutants Al Najma 37-28 while Füchse Berlin defeated Brazilian club Taubate. Montpellier HB booked the remaining semi-final spot with a 31-22 win against Hammamet.
