St. Petersburg: Deputy Speaker of the Advisory Council H E Issa bin Rabia Al Kuwari underlined that the State of Qatar works, in accordance with the directives of its wise leadership, to establish peace, stability, the rule of law and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
Addressing the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), currently in session in St. Petersburg, H E Issa bin Rabia Al Kuwari said that the State of Qatar believes that nation-building begins by building human beings through cooperation, mutual respect and coexistence among members of society, regardless of religion, culture and ethnicity.
In order to achieve cultural diversity through dialogue, the State of Qatar has hosted Doha Interfaith Conference since 2003, and established the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue to spread the culture of dialogue, acceptance of others and peaceful co-existence among religions. The State also established the Doha Centre for Media Freedom to achieve the freedom and quality of the media as a human right as provided for in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
H E the Deputy Speaker of the Advisory Council highlighted the important topics on the agenda of this session, which are on the list of interests of parliaments and States, because they are compatible with the requirements of the transformations and events that ripple the various parts of the world, and the Middle East in particular.
Despite the international documents and treaties guaranteeing the rights of peoples to self-determination, some peoples continue to suffer the scourge of injustice, coercion and domination of dictatorships, creating an unstable situation that has provided fertile ground for extremism and terrorist groups, therefore, threatening international peace and security.
