Khartoum: Qatar Standardization Organization participated in the 49th meeting of the Higher Consultative Committee for Standardization, which was formed by the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), held in Khartoum.
During the meeting, which was chaired by the delegation of the State of Qatar, Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam, Chairman of Qatar Standardization Organization, reviewed and discussed several topics including the recommendations of the 48th meeting of the Supreme Advisory Committee for Standardization, preparing, adopting and updating standard Arab standards and consumer protection, review of the reports of the third meeting of the secretariats of the Technical Committee for the preparation of the unified Arab standards and the report of the 7th meeting of the Standing Technical Advisory Committee in charge of following up the implementation of the Arab Strategy for Standardization and Quality. Celebration of World Standardization Day.
On the sidelines of the meeting of the Higher Advisory Committee, the Chairman of Qatar Standardization Organization met with Dr. Awad Mohammed Ahmed Sakarab, Chairman of the 49th Meeting, Director-General of the Sudanese Organisation for Standardisation and Metrology, and discussed aspects of cooperation between the two bodies in the field of specifications and standardization.
Qatar Standardization Organization is also participating in the first Arab Forum for Standardization and Consumer Protection under the theme “Standardization Enhances Consumer Protection” which is also being held in the Sudanese capital. It is organised by the Arab Organization for Industrial Development and Mining and the Sudanese Organization for Standardization and Metrology And the Department of Arab Economic Integration in the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. The meeting is part of the Arab efforts to improve standards in the Arab world and improve its performance to protect the Arab consumer.
This meeting is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of standardization and the promotion of its culture and its role in consumer protection and improve the quality of life. It also represents an opportunity to learn about the efforts of standardization bodies and consumer protection organizations in Arab countries and exchange experiences and experiment between standardization bodies and Arab consumer protection systems to improve the quality of products and services provided to Arab citizens. The forum deal with four topics: standardization in the Arab world, the status of Arab consumer protection, development prospects and the role of standardization in consumer protection, development prospects and the role of standardization in consumer protection, awareness, educating about standardization and consumer protection.
