Awareness activities held on World Vision Day

The Ministry of Public Health has organised several awareness activities in the framework of World Vision Day to raise public awareness on the causes of blindness and how to prevent them as part of the implementation of the global initiative to eliminate blindness called “Vision 2020: The Right to Sight”.
The Ministry of Public Health, represented by the Blindness Prevention Unit provided comprehensive eye examinations to 50 Qatar University students and a number of university staff, as well as organised lectures for students on the importance of prevention of visual problems and the dissemination of a culture of periodic examination of the eyes. Students from the Nutrition Department gave advice to attendees about the importance of proper and balanced nutrition for the prevention of eye diseases, as well as the most important nutrients useful for the protection of eyesight, with a series of pamphlets and educational pamphlets about eye diseases and how to prevent them.
A team of specialists from the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind, in collaboration with officials of the Ministry of Public Health’s Blindness Prevention Unit explained the services it provides to the blind and parents, and the latest technologies to help the blind person’s daily life and use.
The Ministry of Public Health has also provided awareness lectures to students of a number of schools to raise awareness of the need for care and prevention of eye diseases.
