Algeria: Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri held bilateral meetings with President of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) in Egypt Mohammed Faeq, Chairperson of the Algerian National Human Rights Council Fava Zerrougui, Chairman of the Omani Human Rights Committee Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosani on the sidelines of the General Assembly Meeting of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI).
Al Marri discussed with the heads of these three bodies ways of joint cooperation and called for the exchange of experiences and expertise in all human rights issues.
Dr Al Marri discussed with Faeq the issues of Qatari students studying in Egypt and Qatari citizens who own properties in Egypt, who were affected by the siege and their inability to check on their property in Egypt.
He called for the need to move quickly by the National Council of the Arab Republic of Egypt to find urgent solutions to these outstanding issues, while Faeq said his willingness to resolve the issues of students and owners of Qatari property.
It is noteworthy that the National Human Rights Committee had addressed the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt, and highlighted the need to work to neutralise human rights files on the political side.
Dr Al Marri also congratulated Fava on her assumption of the presidency of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions at its new session.
Dr Al Marri called for this session to be full of achievements at the level of the network’s objectives in enhancing the capacities of these institutions. During the meeting of the Chairman NHRC with Al Hosani, the importance of enhancing GCC-GCC cooperation in the field of human rights and activating the joint activities between the Qatari and Omani committees was stressed.
