Doha: Al Gharafa will start their title defence against mighty Al Duhail as the schedule for the Ooredoo Cup was announced yesterday by the Qatar Stars League.
According to the schedule, first round of the 12-team tournament will be played on October 11 and 12. The remaining rounds’ fixtures will be finalised in co-ordination with the authorities concerned, it was announced yesterday.
Al Sadd will be seen in action on the opening day when they will start their campaign against Al Wakrah at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium.
Al Rayyan will meet Al Shahania while Al Ahli will lock horns with Umm Salal on the inaugural day. The second day of the first round will be followed by three more matches including a game between Al Gharafa and Al Duhail.
The 12 First Division teams participating in the event have been divided into two groups in the Ooredoo Cup with the top four teams advancing to the quarter-finals after the first stage. Al Gharafa have won the previous two editions of the event.
