Islamabad: At least 28 people have been killed in floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan's province of Punjab.
A spokesman for the provincial rescue department, Farooq Ahmed, explained that the deaths were caused by roof collapses, particularly in rural areas of Punjab. He noted that approximately 90 people were injured in these weather fluctuations, which are likely to worsen in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that further rainfall in the months of July and August will lead to rising river levels and severe flooding.
Punjab is Pakistan's largest province, where millions depend on agriculture and live in villages. The death toll from this year's rainy season has exceeded 150, and more than 300 others have been injured during weeks of intermittent rains that began on June 26.
