Third edition of QGBC’s annual QSW in October

DOHA: Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), has announced that the 3rd edition of its annual Qatar Sustainability Week initiative, will take place from October 27 to November 3.

Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW), held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, serves as a unique platform to promote the nation’s sustainability vision as well as engage the wider community in a range of sustainability-oriented activities.

The announcement of QSW 2018 is a continuation of the success of the initiative over the last two years. QSW 2016 saw more than 10,000 participants attend more than 100 events held in three Qatari cities. 

Furthermore, QSW 2017 witnessed the participation of 108 government and private institutions with 210 activities, attracting more than 20,000 participants, in addition to a reach of 500,000 people with the support of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and Vodafone. 

The QSW 2018 introduction event, hosted by Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel, presented plans for QSW 2018 to more than 80 new organizations and community groups as well as previous participating partners. 

The event showcased the achievements of the 2016 and 2017 QSW editions. Attendees got a chance to hear success stories from previous QSW partners including, Qatar University School of Business and Economics, Al Wakra Municipality, among others. QGBC also shared many event ideas for the week of activities, as well as partnership opportunities.

Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, Director of QGBC, said: “We are delighted to announce Qatar Sustainability Week 2018. QGBC has made tremendous strides in advancing Qatar’s sustainable development goals, and the running of Qatar Sustainability Week for the last two years is a notable achievement for QGBC and a significant nationwide event.”

“This initiative plays a crucial role in raising awareness among the wider community, while showcasing the progress, Qatar has made in the areas of sustainability and green buildings.”

Mansour Ajran Al-Buainain, Director of Al Wakra Municipality commented: “We are very proud to be part of Qatar Sustainability Week for the third year. This initiative truly encourages the people of Qatar to participate and do more towards helping the community and I look forward to this partnership and supporting QGBC towards a sustainable future.”
