Ooredoo Chief Executive Officer Waleed Al Sayed
DOHA: Ooredoo’s Chief Executive Officer, Waleed Al Sayed, has thanked all participants, spectators and sponsors of this year’s Ooredoo Doha Marathon.
With over 2,400 runners and a host of professional athletes taking part in the sixth Ooredoo Doha Marathon, the company has called it one of its ‘biggest events’ ever.
“I would like to congratulate the winners of the Ooredoo Doha Marathon 2018 on their achievement and thank everyone who participated in this year’s event. We’re very happy to kick-off the new year with the different communities of Qatar, nationals and residents, running side by side in our sixth edition of the Marathon that was held under the theme “United We Run”. We truly demonstrated our community spirit and love for athletics,” said Waleed Al-Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo.
“I also want to thank our Sports Tourism Partner Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) for their support. Enabling the people of Qatar to run alongside world-class athletes taking part in our half marathon category is a huge boost to our vision of inspiring more people to get fit and active,” added Waleed Al-Sayed.
The 2018 edition of the Marathon marked the first time Ooredoo partners with QTA to help raise the country’s largest mass-participation event profile internationally.
Rashed Al Qurese, Chief Marketing and Promotion Officer at QTA, commented: “We are pleased to have collaborated with Ooredoo as Sports Tourism Partner for the sixth edition of the Ooredoo Doha Marathon, as part of QTA’s efforts to build the spots tourism sector to attract sports athletes and fans from all corners of the globe.”
He added: “We are delighted to have hosted a distinguished field of international athletes to participate in the Half Marathon category to echo Qatar’s message of welcoming the world and shed a spotlight on the country’s tourism capabilities and world-class sports facilities. We look forward to extending our support to numerous local and international sports events in Qatar in the months and years to come”.
As part of the company’s vision to inspire the next generation of Qatari athletes, Ooredoo arranged a host of activities last week for Qatar’s youth, including a visit from some of the top international athletes to Qatar’s schools, a Marathon Master Class led by Sir Mo Farah with students from Aspire Academy, and a special ‘Meet and Greet’ at Mall of Qatar.
This year’s marathon was held under the theme #UnitedWeRun and featured courses for runners of all abilities - including a 10 KM and 5 KM run, half-marathon, full marathon and a special children’s 1 KM fun run. All funds raised from the Ooredoo Doha Marathon 2018 will go to charity.
