Doha: Qatar’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) witnessed an increase of 1.34% in October compared to previous month (September 2021), reaching at 100.41 points. When compared on annual basis, the consumer prices in Qatar (as per the general CPI index) in October have also increased by 4.28% compared to the CPI of the same month in 2020, latest data by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show.
A month-on-month (M-o-M) analysis of CPI for October 2021 compared with CPI of September 2021, showed that there were nine main groups, where respective indices during this month have increased, namely: “Recreation and Culture” by 9.32%, “Food and Beverages” by 1.40%, “Restaurants and Hotels” by 1.66%, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 0.45%, “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 0.42%, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 0.37%, “Communication” by 0.26%, “Transport” by 0.05%, and “Education” by 0.01%.
However, a decrease has been recorded in the following groups: “Health” by 0.63%, and “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.25%. “ Meanwhile, “Tobacco” had remained flat at the last month’s price level.
A comparison of the CPI of October 2021 with the CPI of October 2020 (Annual Change), showed an increase has been recorded in the general index (CPI), by 4.28%. This year-on-year (Y-o-Y) price increase was primarily due to the prices rising in nine groups namely: “Recreation and Culture” by 25.31%, followed by “Transport” by 9.56%, “Food and Beverages” by 4.17%, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 3.72%, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 2.69%, “Restaurants and Hotels” by 2.24%, “Education” by 1.77%, “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.91%, and “Communication” by 0.60%.
While a decrease has been shown in price levels in “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 3.58%, and “Health” by 1.39%. No change was recorded on “Tobacco”.
The CPI of October 2021 excluding “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” group stands at 103.81 points showing an increase of 1.55% M-o-M, and an increase of 6.24% when compared to the CPI of October 2020.
