Doha: The Ministry of Labour participated in the meetings of the 343rd session of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Governing Body, which was held remotely.
The agenda of the session’s meetings included many important institutional and substantive issues related to the organisation’s work and its role in supporting member states’ efforts to meet labour market challenges.
Among the issues on which the discussions focused were the inclusion of an item on the agenda of the next session of the International Labour Organisation on June 2022, regarding the inclusion of safe and healthy working conditions within the framework of the International Labour Organisation Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the follow-up to the global call to action for a human-centred recovery from the COVID-19 crisis adopted by the 109th session of the International Labour Organisation on June 2021, and the arrangements for the elections of the Director-General of the International Labour Organisation to be held during the March 2022 session of the Governing Body.
The ILO’s board of directors also discussed the organization’s Director-General’s call to implement several amendments to the procedures for appointing members of the Committee of Experts on the implementation of agreements and recommendations to ensure more transparency and geographical balance while preserving their independence, impartiality, and technical expertise, as well as developments related to complaints submitted under article 26 of the ILO Constitution against several countries, where it decided in this regard to continue to include these cases on the agenda of its next session, to follow up on the extent of the commitment of those countries to address the issues raised in the complaints submitted against them.
