Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has urged Qatari men and women wishing to participate in the Quran Categories branch of the 31st Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Quran Competition to register by October 20, the final date for applications.

The competition, organised by the Ministry’s organising committee for the 1448 AH/2026 edition, aims to encourage the memorisation of the Holy Quran, promote excellence in recitation and Tajweed, and identify and nurture national talent in Quranic studies.

The Quran Categories branch offers five competitive levels, allowing participants to compete according to their memorisation abilities and progress in learning the Holy Quran. The categories cover memorisation of five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 parts of the Quran, from either the beginning or the end of the Holy Book.

The Ministry said the graded structure provides broader opportunities for participants to develop their memorisation skills and improve their recitation while strengthening their connection with the Quran through understanding and practice.

Registration is open to Qatari male and female citizens. The committee has called on eligible candidates to take advantage of the remaining registration period and submit their applications before the October 20 deadline. The qualifying tests for the branch are scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Male participants will sit their tests at Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, while female participants will be tested at the Women’s Activities Section of the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance in Al Waab. The organising committee said the detailed examination schedule, including specific dates and timings, would be announced later. Previous winners are eligible to participate again in the same category or compete in a higher one. Those who have been absent from the competition for more than three years may return in a category one level below the highest category in which they previously won.
