Doha: Asian champions Qatar will play a friendly match against South Korea on November 17 in Austria, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced yesterday.

The match is part of the team’s preparations for upcoming assignments, including the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Qatar is ranked 55th in the FIFA World rankings, the fifth-highest ranking among national teams in Asia.

South Korea, meanwhile, sits in 39th place, the third-highest among national teams in the continent. It will be the second high-profile friendly match for the Felix Sanchez-coached side as it also played a friendly against African side Ghana in the Turkish city of Antalya, earlier this week.

Among Qatar’s top assignment next year is the Copa America, which will be held in Colombia and Argentina. Al Anabi will feature in the tournament for the second consecutive year and will be up against Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru in the group stage.

The tournament will be staged from June 12 to July 12, 2021.

The Asian giants will also make their debut at the CONCACAF Gold Cup next year, where they will compete with 16 of the best teams in the world.

The FIFA World Cup hosts are drawn in Group D with Honduras, Panama and Grenada in the first round.
