Manila: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Ilocos Norte province in the northern Philippines today.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that the earthquake occurred 430 kilometers from the Pasuquin area in the province, at a depth of 430 kilometers.
There are no reports yet of any material or human damage caused by the earthquake.
The Philippines experiences increased volcanic and seismic activity due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," where tectonic plates intersect.
It's worth noting that the last major earthquake to strike the Philippines was in October 2013, when it measured 7.1 on the Richter scale and killed more than 220 people.
