Total’s traditional themed welcome party called ‘Marhaba day’ was recently celebrated in Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC). The annual event is organised by the Qatari committee of Total to welcome those employees new to the company and to Qatar. All employees and contractors of Total and their families were invited, and were welcomed with a taste of Qatari hospitality and traditional Qatari music by a local live band.
Guillaume Chalmin, Managing Director of Total E&P Qatar and Group Representative, then delivered the opening speech, and commemorated the winners of the various competitions held during Qatar National Week 2014 celebrations in Total.
The venue included a large array of activities such as horse riding, a traditional Qatari corner with arts, crafts, costumes, henna and calligraphy; falconing – a sport widely practiced in Qatar, a Qatari live food station, and a section dedicated to children with inflatable, face painting and other games.
Fatima Al Sharshani who was one of the organizers of the event said: “Our goal is to help our colleagues understand and embrace our culture, and this event indeed enabled them to learn more about our traditions through a transforming and enjoyable experience”.
During his speech, Guillaume Chalmin mentioned: “It is very important to appreciate the traditions of our host country Qatar as we live and work here. It was a remarkable day for us as we come from over 40 different countries, and we were all able to embrace Qatar as our second home. The Peninsula
