Doha Modern Indian School students of Grade 6 to 10 celebrated the World Human Right Day on 10th December 2014 in the school. The volunteered students, Rahul Raj (6E), NandiniSharma (7C), NuhaNasir Khan (8D) and ArjunSreekumar (10C) visited all classes and delivered speech to commemorate the importance of the day.
They reminded students about the declaration of the UN’s General Assembly that having human rights “is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world”. Each year 10th December, the day when ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ was adopted by United Nation General Assembly is celebrated globally as the Human Rights Day. The students took the day as an opportunity to celebrate human rights to demonstrate their support and advocacy for these essential rights. The speakers also reminded the students that we all should have a genuine regard for all fellow human beings and believe in the equality of all.
They advocated the role played by Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King in protecting and promoting essential human rights for one and all. The students also have a great responsibility to protest against racism and discrimination in peaceful manner. The appealed all that the human right was something that should be fought for constantly - every day of every year. They were warmly congratulated for taking initiative and efforts in celebrating the World Human Rights Day in the school.
