Doha: Ambassador of Peru to Qatar, H E Jose Benzaquen, on Monday joined the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) President and other top ranking officials to watch the Amir Cup final that was played between Qatar SC and Al Sadd.

The match was won by Qatar SC who completed a hat-trick of Amir Cup titles at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium Indoor Hall.

H E Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), was also present to watch the match.

The Peruvian ambassador was all praise for the smooth conduct of the prestigious championship that featured the country’s top sports clubs.

“First of all, in March of this year, I had the chance to assist to the 2020 ITTP World Tour Platinum in Doha, where I had the greatest opportunity to see the best players of table tennis with such a precision and perfect organisation,” Ambassador Benzaquen said in a statement.

“On Monday, I had the pleasure to be part of the Amir Cup Championship, accompanied by the QTTA President, where I appreciated the great capacity and talent of the Qatari teams as well the appearance of many fans and supporters of this incredible Sport which I admire and practice myself,” he added.

“I believe that any type of sport unifies our people and nations and strengthen our friendship all around the world without any borders as we are witnessing it during the qualifications for Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022,” the ambassador concluded in his statement.

In a courageous fightback, Qatar SC lost the first match but hit back with three successive wins to take the title 3-1 on Monday.

Qatar SC succeeded in bagging the title for the third time in a row having won it in 2018 and 2019.

On the other hand, Al Sadd failed to reclaim the title missing from its trophy cabinet since the 2014-2015 season when they beat Al Arabi in the final. Monday’s final was a repeat of the 2017-18 title clash which also won by Qatar SC.

Al Sadd have won the prestigious championship five times (1997, 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2015) besides remaining runners-up six times.
