DOHA: India’s exports to Qatar witnessed a record 87 percent increase in 2017, at a value of $1.5bn. The bilateral trade between both the countries stood at 10.5bn in same period, major share coming from LNG and LPG imports from Qatar, India’s Ambassador to Qatar P. Kumaran (pictured) said. He was addressing an event hosted by Indian businessmen to the visiting official trade delegation of Indian state Gujarat, headed by Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary. Present on the occasion were Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al-Kuwari, Vice Chairman, Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry, R. D Barhatt, Joint Commissioner of Industries, Gujarat, a number of Qatari and Indian business community members.
Ambassador Kumaran hoped that new realignment in supply change will bring more opportunities in direct partnership between India and Qatar. He lauded Gujarat based industries contribution to the country’s economy which presently shares around 22 percent of Indian industrial production according to him.
Indian envoy to Qatar said that Gujarat is a promising destination and provide all facilities and opportunities to traders and investors.
He invited a delegation of Qatari businessmen to visit forthcoming vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit and look into the opportunities it provides.
Mohammad AlTawar, Deputy Chairman Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industries welcomed Indian delegation headed by Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta and said that he looked forward looking for mutual opportunities during our meetings with the delegation.
Addressing the event, M S Bukhari, Doha based Indian businessman and philanthropist, stressed on the importance of participants visiting forthcoming Gujarat Exhibition to be held in Doha from 18-20 January 2019. He hoped that Gujrat and Qatar business relationship will boost further and strengthen bilateral relationship.
Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta highlighted some of the achievements in economic sector of his province of Gujarat. He said that Gujarat is contributing 8 percent India’s GDP, 53 percent of industrial production of total country’s industrial production and 53 percent of India’s Petro Chemicals production and pharmaceuticals is exported to 150 countries from Gujarat.
Dr Gupta said that Gujarat infrastructure is highly developed from power supply, roads system to good governance.
He said that Gujarat enjoys as the leading province throughout India to have highest foreign investments consistently since last 10 years. Gujarat has also developed its agriculture sector and having 10% annual growth since last number of years.
