Doha: As part of its ongoing efforts to protect marine biodiversity, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change organised a field event at Fuwairit Beach to mark the hawksbill turtle hatching and release season.

The event welcomed 110 visitors from Qatar Museums, and was attended by Ambassador of South Africa to Qatar H E Ghulam Hoosein Asmal.

The Ministry’s environmental team provided an overview of the marine turtle protection project, highlighting its goals in safeguarding endangered species such as the hawksbill turtle.

The team also presented the ministry’s efforts to preserve this rare species, which benefits from a safe nesting and breeding environment along Qatar’s northern shores.

The turtle release was conducted under the supervision of the Ministry’s environmental team, following a beach cleanup campaign carried out by the visitors.

The cleanup aimed to promote environmental awareness while ensuring a clean and safe natural habitat for the young turtles making their way to the sea.

This event forms part of the Ministry’s broader Marine Turtle Protection Project and the National Biodiversity Protection Program, reflecting its commitment to raising environmental awareness and enhancing the role of community members and national institutions in supporting environmental initiatives.

These efforts align with Qatar’s national strategies for environmental sustainability.
