Doha: Al Shamal Security Department arrested four suspects after they tried to smuggle gold out of the country illegally by converting it into powder form.
The department received information about a gang working to smuggle gold abroad and by intensifying the search and investigation, they managed to apprehend the first accused. On interrogation, he confessed and directed the officers to the rest of the accused, who were of Asian nationality, and were caught in possession of gold bars.
The tools and devices they used to convert gold into powder were also found, in addition to financial invoices for the value of gold. They were arrested and the seized items were referred to concerned authorities to initiate legal procedures.
Ministry of Interior appealed to the public to cooperate with them in the event of ant suspicions activities by reporting it immediately to reduce such crimes.
