Doha: The 11th edition of the Qatar Open Shooting Championship 2023, organised by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSSA), began at the Lusail Shooting Complex yesterday and will continue until February 20 with the participation of 156 shooters from 52 countries and with the inclusion of 30 world and Olympic champions.

The 50-meter skeet competition for men, women began on the opening day and will conclude next Wednesday.

The shotgun competitions will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

The championship also has the participation of fifty Qatari shooters who have prepared for this participation through intensive training. They had recently participated in the Shooting World Cup in Morocco. These shooters will also participate in the Asian Championship in Kuwait, followed by the World Cup in Qatar.

Qatar is also being represented by 12 international referees, both Qataris and residents. The championship which has been held in Qatar since 2011, has returned after a hiatus due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It serves as a preparatory stop ahead of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, QSAA also honoured Qatar rally ace and Olympic shooter Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah on his winning the Dakar Rally title for a fifth time history.

The ceremony held at the headquarters of QSSA was attended by Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr, President of QSAA, and a number of shooters participating in the Qatar Open Shooting Championship.

Al Attiyah thanked QSAA for the kind gesture, expressing his happiness. He wished success to all shooters at the championship.
