Doha: Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Towar Al Kuwari stressed the importance of promoting cooperation relations with Azerbaijan in economic and commercial fields, indicating that despite the strong relations between Qatar and Azerbaijan, their trade exchange is still below aspirations.

He was speaking at a meeting with a delegation from Azerbaijan headed by the Chairman of the Management Board of SME Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan Orkhan Mammadov. Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the State of Qatar H E Rashad Ismayilov was also present at the meeting.

During the event, Al Kuwari also emphasised that Qatar Chamber encourages Qatari businessmen to explore the investment climate in Azerbaijan and establish investment projects, which results in developing trade exchange between the two countries.

He went on to underscore the importance of establishing a joint business council between businessmen from both countries, noting that it will play a key role in examining investment opportunities available in both sides and stimulating businessmen to further cooperation between them.

“Qatar’s economy is open and highly welcomes Azeri products which are of high quality and competitive,” he added.

In return, Mammadov praised the close relations between his country and Qatar, affirming the strong will of his country to enhance economic and commercial partnerships with Qatar and that there is significant interest from the Azeri side to further develop cooperation with the private sector in both countries in a way that leads to increasing trade between them.

Mammadov expressed the readiness of his country to provide the Qatari market with various products whether through air or marine shipping, stressing the desire of the Azeri side to set up a Qatari-Azeri business council with a view to further cooperation between businessmen from both friendly countries.
