Doha, Qatar: The passing of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani prompted an outpouring of condolences and tributes from heads of state, royal families, and senior leaders across the world, who praised his enduring legacy and extended heartfelt sympathy to the leadership, people, and government of the State of Qatar.

The Amiri Diwan announced yesterday that H H the Father Amir had passed away at the age of 74. Messages of condolence swiftly followed from regional and international leaders, reflecting the profound respect he commanded for his pivotal role in Qatar’s transformation and his contributions to regional and global diplomacy.

In their statements, world leaders honoured the late Father Amir’s visionary leadership, statesmanship, and lasting achievements in advancing Qatar’s development, while offering prayers for his mercy and expressing solidarity with the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Al-Thani family, and the people of Qatar during this period of national mourning.

President of the United Arab Emirates

President of the United Arab Emirates H H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated through his X account: “I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to my brother @TamimBinHamad and his family on the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. May God grant him mercy, rest his soul in eternal peace, and bring comfort to his family during this difficult time.”

Kingdom of Jordan

H M King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on his X account, sent “deepest condolences and sincerest feelings of solace to my brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and the sisterly Qatari people on the passing of the late His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.”

HM King Charles III of the United Kingdom and HM Queen Camilla expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, paying tribute to his many years of distinguished leadership and dedication to the State of Qatar. They said his vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the Qatari people had earned widespread respect both within Qatar and internationally.

President of Turkiye

Turkish President H E Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his sincere condolences on the passing of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

In a post on X he said: “My most esteemed friend, I learned with great sorrow of the passing of the Father Amir of the State of Qatar, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. During my tenure as Prime Minister, he was someone with whom I worked closely on the international stage; he played a major role in elevating the political, commercial, military, humanitarian, and cultural relations between Turkey and the State of Qatar to their current level; I witnessed his sincere efforts for the peace of the Islamic world, the stability of our region, and the welfare of the Qatari people.

Sheikh Hamad lived as a giant; today he becomes a legend. President of Pakistan H E Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep grief over the passing of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

In a post on X, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Government and the brotherly people of Qatar on this sad occasion. He paid tribute to the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani’s visionary leadership and his valuable contributions to the progress and development of Qatar, as well as to regional peace and cooperation.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), H E Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the esteemed Al-Thani family, and the government and people of Qatar on the death of H H the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. Albudaiwi said the late Father Amir was one of the leaders who, with sincerity and wisdom, contributed to Qatar’s renaissance and its comprehensive development across various fields.

The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan HE Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences via his official X account, saying: “Deeply saddened by the passing away of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Former Amir of the State of Qatar. The Lebanese Presidency announced that President of the Republic of Lebanon HE General Joseph Aoun, expressed his grief and sorrow over the passing of HH the Father Amir whose passing he said “constitutes a profound loss for the sisterly State of Qatar, for Lebanon, and for the Arab world.”

Prime Minister of the Republic of India H E Narendra Modi also took to social media to express his condolences, saying: “We deeply mourn the passing of Father Amir of State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. A visionary leader who led Qatar to great levels of development and prosperity, we remember him also as a true friend whom I had the honour of meeting during my last visit to Qatar in February 2024. I convey my sincere condolences to the Amir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the entire royal family and people of Qatar. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
