Doha: The General Tax Authority (GTA) has announced the launch of the Digital Tax Stamp System on imports of cigarettes and other tobacco products and their derivatives into the country.
According to a GTA statement on Wednesday, the import of cigarettes without valid and activated digital tax stamps will not be permitted from tomorrow (October 13), while the import of other tobacco products without valid and activated digital tax stamps will not be permitted from November 3.
On the other hand, cigarettes will not be sold or circulated anywhere in the country unless they have valid and activated digital tax stamps on them as from January 11, 2023.
As from July 14, 2022, importers of cigarettes registered for excise tax were able to submit requests for the purchase of digital tax stamps electronically on the Digital Tax Stamp System, to be placed on the cigarette packs that will be imported, the statement said.
GTA noted that as from August 4, importers of other tobacco products registered for excise tax were also able to submit requests for the purchase of digital tax stamps electronically on the digital tax stamp system to be placed on the cigarette packs that will be imported.
Meanwhile, other tobacco products will not be allowed to be sold or circulated anywhere in the country unless they have valid and activated tax stamps on them as from February 1, 2023.
