Over 250 businesses to take part in ‘Made at Home’ expo

DOHA: The deadline for the submission of applications to participate in the upcoming ‘Made at Home Exhibition 2018’ for home based businesses is approaching fast, and only a less than week’s time left to apply.

The official last date for the submission of applications is August 16, 2018, which means, aspirants are effectively left with only five days to express their interests to participate at the coveted event. The expo, which is dedicated to only home based local micro-enterprises, is schedule to take place from October 14 to 20, 2018 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).

The second-edition of the event is also being held under the patronage of H E Sheikha Al Mayassah bint Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), Qatar Chamber (QC) and Nama.

The expo is organised to enhance home-based businesses to support the local economy, improve the entrepreneur’s skills in presenting and marketing their products. The event also provides a market place for home-based business to present and sell their products and services.

In addition, it also provides a platform to share the knowledge and experience among the entrepreneurs.

The expo targets all the home based businesses that are licensed by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce except the trading business.

The terms and conditions to participate at the exhibition includes that the applicant should be Qatari national with a valid commercial registration or homebased commercial licenses, according to information available at QDB’s official website.

The interested parties can apply for registration online through QDB’s website. The registration fee payment is accepted by card only, and no cash payment is accepted. The fee paid is non-refundable if the participant decides to withdrew, and the participation is non-transferable. Trading products are not allowed.

Participate with the selected products that are confirmed by the organisers. Prices of products should be in line with Ministry of Economy and Commerce pricing regulations.

The number of home-based businesses has increased sharply in the country showing that Qatar is progressing fast in the field of self-sufficiency. A total of 250 home-based businesses are expected to participate in this year’s ‘Made at Home’ exhibition, which is around 74 percent more than the last years. In the last year’s edition of the exhibition, 144 home-based businesses had participated.

Rising number of home-based businesses demonstrate that the culture of entrepreneurship is gaining momentum in Qatar as a result of various measures taken by the different government agencies, including the QDB.
