Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the World Labour Summit with a high-level delegation headed by Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri on the sidelines of the 110th session of the International Labour Conference, in Geneva.

World of Work Summit promotes “human-centred recovery and resilience”  and was attended by Heads of Government, Ministers of Labour and high-level officials of ILO member states.

The ministry, in a statement, said that the global summit discusses the urgent measures that the ILO and member states can take to address the challenges of the labour sector globally, in addition to the fallouts that have stricken the social field as a result of the multiple crises in the world.

The participants in the summit addressed the challenges of the global labour market, including high unemployment rates, increasing poverty rates, lack of social protection and respect for labour rights, in addition to the effects of increased food and energy prices on social protection systems.

The summit also discussed long-term challenges, including climate change and the rippling effects of COVID-19 pandemic, and the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis and its impact on the world in terms of energy and food, which may result in economic crises.

The summit identified persistent labour issues caused by successive crises with the aim of advancing recovery measures and providing a real opportunity to enhance the role of the ILO  in stimulating an effective response to social and labour crises and helping to solve them.

The participants stressed the need to support the public sector by adopting an integrated approach that responds to the reality of society’s life in terms of providing jobs and social protection by strengthening ILO’s role.
