Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani paid an official visit to the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran yesterday. During the visit H H the Amir and President of Iran H E Ebrahim Raisi, held official talks session at the Republican Palace in Tehran.
During the session, relations in the political, economic and trade fields were discussed, in addition to enhancing prospects for bilateral cooperation in the sectors of tourism, investment, transport and communications.The talks also dealt with a number of regional and international issues, especially the latest developments in the region.
The session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Chief of Amiri Diwan H E Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Transport H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani.
On the Iranian side, the session was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Energy H E Ali-Akbar Mehrabian, Minister of Roads and Urban Development H E Rostam Qasemi, and Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade H E Reza Fatemi.
An official reception ceremony was held for H H the Amir, upon his arrival at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
His Highness Amir also met with Supreme Leader H E Ali Khamenei at Maqam Rahbri in the capital, Tehran. During the meeting, they reviewed existing friendly relations between the two countries and discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
After concluding the official visit, a joint statement was made by H H Amir and Iran's President.
H H the Amir expressed his thanks to the President for his invitation to visit Iran, and for the warm welcome accorded to His Highness and the accompanying delegation.
The Amir affirmed that this is the second visit, which comes after the recent visit of the Iranian President to Doha, and it reflects the importance of relations between the two countries and the joint work to strengthen, develop and push them to higher levels.
H H the Amir affirmed that in his meeting with the Iranian President, he touched on important bilateral issues in various fields, explaining that the discussions included many topics of common interest, and that the two sides agreed on the importance of all working in the region to resolve conflicts, reduce tension and make the region in a better situation, including serve its people.
With regard to relations with Iran, H H the Amir indicated that the State of Qatar is keen to establish a permanent and continuous dialogue, stressing that Iran is a neighbour and has historical relations with Qatar based on common interests, mutual respect and meaningful discussion for the sake of stability in the region and strengthening international peace and security.
With regard to regional and international issues, H H the Amir indicated that he discussed with the Iranian President the Palestinian issue, and the continued Israeli occupation and violation of the rights of the Palestinian people.
In this context, both leaders expressed their sincere condolences to the family of Palestinian journalist Shereen Abu Aqleh, who was martyred by the Israeli occupation forces. H H the Amir called for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to be held accountable, and called on the international community to abandon double standards and protect civilians from repeated Israeli attacks that violate international laws and norms.
With regard to the Vienna negotiations, H H the Amir said that Qatar looks positively and optimistically at international efforts to peacefully resolve differences with Iran over its nuclear project. The Amir said that this has always been Qatar’s approach in supporting peace and stability in the region.
The discussions also touched on the situations in Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria, and the importance of dialogue was emphasized to reach a solution to these crises. In this regard, the Amir affirmed that Qatar believes in respecting the sovereignty of countries, non-interference in their internal affairs, respect for good neighbourliness, and resolving differences and disputes through dialogue.
H H the Amir affirmed that adherence to these principles is the key to resolving all disputes and crises in the region.
To conclude his statements, the Amir expressed his aspiration to welcome the Iranian fans to watch their national team’s matches in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament in Qatar next November. His Highness noted that Qatar will fulfill its promise to organise an exceptional tournament by all standards, which will be a source of pride for the entire Islamic world, expressing his thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran for expressing its willingness to support the hosting of this event.
H E the Iranian President began his statements by expressing his happiness at H H the Amir’s acceptance of his invitation to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran, praising the two countries’ historical relations of neighborliness and friendship.
H E the Iranian President pointed to the importance of the region’s security, especially the security of the waterways in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, stressing that the two countries will cooperate and consult to establish and ensure security on these roads.
To conclude, H E the Iranian President expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to HH the Amir and his accompanying delegation for this visit, considering that it represents a turning point in the level of bilateral relations between the two countries, and that its role is important in strengthening bilateral relations and regional and international cooperation, hoping that it will achieve a beneficial effect in bilateral relations.
H H the Amir and H E the Iranian President witnessed the signing of the minutes of the joint statement, as it was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, and on the Iranian side by Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
