Doha: The Central Municipal Council (CMC) has proposed to open sports facilities of all Independent schools to women to practice sport in the evening hours, following the success of a pilot project.
The Council yesterday lauded the agreement recently signed by the the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to allow women in the respective areas to use sports facilities in independent schools after the working hours.
The initial implementation in some schools was successful and encouraged people to practice sports specially women who cannot able to use sport facilities available in public parks he added. In this regard, the council has urged the ministry of education to coordinate with the relevant authorities to apply the initiative in all schools as the pilot project is successful.
The recommendation was based on proposal made by Khalid bin Abdullah Hitmi representative of the constituency (4) who mentioned that there are many sports facilities in the schools that can be used by the residence of the neighbourhood after schools time.
Officials from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education had attended a meeting held by the Services and Facilities Committee, pointed out that the project has been implemented in four schools to encourage women to practice sports and it is limited to Qatari women at this stage. The ministry is ready to support and expand the experiences said the officials.
Call to intensify monitoring of bakeries
The council urged the Ministry of Municipal and Environment to review the designs of public parks in order to reduce construction costs. Designs also need to take into account not only cutting constructions costs, but also maintenance and operational costs, said the council in its recommendation.
The council’s recommendation was based on a proposal by a member and Vice Chairman of the Council, Engineer Hamad bin Lahdan Mohannadi, who pointed out that constructions of many public parks have been either cancelled or delayed because of the high cost of their constructions. There are many facilities in the existing parks that are not properly utilised and more parks in the neighbourhoods can be built with smaller facilities like greenery, walk sides, he added,
In another recommendation, directed to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the CMC urged the ministry to intensify its monitoring of bakeries to ensure they use bags that fulfill the specifications and standards for packing bread.
The Council also urged the Ministry of Public Health to check tea-bags with iron staples to assure that they do not harm the health of consumers.
It urged the ministry and other authorities concerned to develop the GCC technical specifications for plastic bags and speed up the formation of a common body for food safety.
