QOC President joins National Sport Day celebrations

Doha: H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), participated in Team Qatar’s National Sport Day (NSD) celebrations which took place at Barahat Msheireb on Tuesday.

For this prestigious occasion, Team Qatar’s Sport Village at Barahat Msheireb was well-equipped with all facilities and services and turning into a home for sport activities and entertainment for all age groups. Citizens and residents from across the country came together to play and enjoy inspiring games, including athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, karate and Judo. On the same track of inspiration, team Qatar champions, headed by the world and Olympic high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim have also inspired the young Qatari generation during this prestigious event.

The event have also seen participation from senior Qatar’s sport officials including the Second-Vice President of the QOC, Dr. Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and  QOC Secretary-General Jassim Rashid Al Buenain along with Heads of Sport Federations and directors of QOC’s departments.

The events also included sports workshops in some games such as gymnastics, martial arts, female training sessions, as well as reviews of free style in football and other recreational numbers.

Dr. Al Kuwari emphasised that the QOC’s celebration of this year’s NSD was different from previous years, praising the great citizens or residents’ response to the events.

He extended thanks to H E Shaikh Joaan, who chose Barahat Msheireb as home to Sport Village that hosted the activities of the QOC.

For his part, President of the Qatar Swimming Federation, Khalil Al Jaber, affirmed that the National Sports Day is a special event that everyone is waiting for in the second week of February every year, noting at the same time that exercise is not limited to one day during the year, but rather it should be a lifestyle.

President of the Qatar Basketball, Ahmed Al Muftah, said that the National Sports Day is a very special day and an express invitation to all to play sports.

The President of the Qatari and Arab Federations and the first Vice-President of the Asian and International Table Tennis Federations, Khalil Al Mohannadi also praised holding the QOC activities in Msheireb, which is one of the vital and touristy areas in Doha. He said that sports culture was strengthened and changed, pointing that everyone became practicing sport, and this confirms that the concept of sport has completely changed and this is undoubtedly due to the wise decision of the wise leadership of the country.
