Chebli and Al Ghedaid extend leads at Qatar National Sprint

Doha: Qatar National Sprint 2022 Championship table toppers Mansour Chebli (O1), Abdulla Al Ghedaid (O3), Nadim Ziade (P1), Maher Serre (P2) and Francesco Fornaciari (P3) extended their leads following victories in the penultimate round of the popular series. 

At the Lusail Circuit Sports Club car park, Lebanese driver Mansour won the Open Class 1 while Qatar’s Nadim Ziade topped the Production Class 1 to get closer to the Championship titles in their respective classes.

Mansour won the Open Class 1 after clocking a time of 1:13.527 in his Renault Clio while Ziade came second in 1:23.901.  Bassam Chebli was third with a time of 1:44.316. 

Driving a Renault Clio RS, Ziade was the fastest in Production Class 1, clocking a time of 1:17.750, ahead of Mansour Chebli and Bassam Chebli who finished second and third respectively. Ziade leads Mansour by just seven points in the standings, with the latter aiming for a double in the final round which will take place on October 22.

Meanwhile, Qatari driver Maher Serre clinched the Production Class 2 title with one more round to go. Driving a Porsche Cayman GTS, Serre clinched his fifth win in a row and took his points tally to 125. His closest rival Aleksandar Jokic sits 25 points behind him after securing the second place in the fifth round. Jad Alawar won the third place in P2 Class on Friday.  

Francesco Fornaciari also secured his Production Class 3 title following his fifth consecutive win which earned him an unassailable 38-point lead. Abdulla Ali Al Abbasi came second in Round 5 while Hassan Ali Abbasi completed the podium.

In Open Class O2, Amro Abdulla won the contest ahead of Championship leader Jad Alawar. Ziad Eddin was third.

Al Ghedaid was the sole contestant in O3. He completed his fastest lap in 1:19.953.

Melina Jokic won the women’s event in 1:36.315.
