Colombo: Eight people were killed and over 30 others were injured when a bus plunged off a cliff in a mountainous area in central Sri Lanka on Sunday.

According to police, the accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday near the town of Kotmale, about 140 kilometers east of Colombo, the capital.

Deadly bus accidents are common in Sri Lanka, especially in the mountainous regions, often due to reckless driving and poorly maintained and narrow roads.
