Doha, Qatar: United Development Company (UDC), a leading Qatari public shareholding company and the master developer of The Pearl and Gewan Islands, celebrated Qatar’s National Sport Day by hosting a full-day community sports and wellness program held simultaneously across both destinations. The initiative brought together partner entities, employees, residents, and visitors of all ages in a shared celebration of active living, wellbeing, and community engagement.

The programme was delivered in participation with officials and employees of the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (Daman) and sponsored by Ooredoo as exclusive telecommunications sponsor. It also saw the participation of UDC’s subsidiaries and affiliate entities, including Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool) represented by its CEO Nahar Al Mutawah, Ronautica Middle East, Hospitality Development Company, The Pearl International Hospital, and Corinthia, reflecting strong institutional collaboration in support of national, community-focused initiatives.

Running from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, the activities transformed the waterfronts and open public spaces of The Pearl and Gewan Islands into vibrant hubs of movement and interaction.

Families and individuals took part in a wide range of sports and recreational activities in an atmosphere dedicated to promoting health, wellbeing, and social connection, continuing the strong year-on-year participation that characterizes National Sport Day at both destinations.

Activities were hosted across key locations at The Pearl Island, including Porto Arabia, Qanat Quartier, and the sports courts at Temba Arena, as well as Crystal Walk at Gewan Island.

The programme featured a diverse mix of activities including a walkathon, fitness sessions, challenge-based team games, and dedicated children’s stations designed to engage all age groups and reinforce sport as an accessible, everyday lifestyle choice.

Commenting on the occasion, Director General of the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (Daman) and UDC Chairman, Ahmed Ali Al Hammadi, said: “The significance of these activities lies in their inclusive community spirit, bringing institutions, families, and individuals together around a shared goal of health and wellbeing. Such initiatives embody the essence of National Sport Day and reaffirm that sport is a way of life that everyone can take part in.”

President & CEO of UDC, Yasser Al-Jaidah, stated: “These activities reflect our vision of developing integrated urban destinations that go beyond residential and leisure offerings to become an integral part of residents’ daily lifestyles. National Sport Day provides a powerful moment to see our public spaces activated exactly as they were envisioned; open environments that encourage movement, support wellbeing, and create shared community experiences.”

UDC continues to organise sports and community activations annually at The Pearl and Gewan Islands as part of its commitment to enhancing quality of life and advancing integrated community living that places people at the heart of urban planning. With extensive green spaces, waterfront promenades, sports facilities, fitness clubs, and lifestyle amenities, both destinations offer an ideal environment for healthy, active living.

This integrated urban ecosystem was clearly demonstrated during National Sport Day, as restaurants, cafés, and fitness venues recorded strong visitor turnout, highlighting how thoughtfully planned community activation drives economic vitality and creates shared value for all stakeholders.
