Doha: Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, Dr Yousef Al Maslamani has explained about some of the long-term symptoms of COVID-19 that can affect people’s health for many weeks or months.
“The COVID-19 virus is transferred by respiratory droplets. It lives in the body for about 14 days. During these days it can cause renal failure, hepatic failure or lung failure. Lung failure means the patient will need oxygen and to be admitted in the ICU,” he said in a video message posted by MoPH in its social media accounts.
“If the patient survives, he can get rid of these problems. But there are long term symptoms that might stay with the patient, even if he survives. These can include muscle weakness, nervousness, general fatigue and may need oxygen for a long time,”
“Just be aware that a COVID-19 virus can have longer term effects on you,” said Dr Al Maslamani.
