Doha, Qatar: The Public Works ‘Ashghal’ announced completion of the road improvement works in the Northern Areas.
The project aims to meet specific needs in various areas in the North of the country through development works that include improving permanent roads and constructing temporary roads to serve residents and facilities, in addition to providing safety elements and implementing infrastructure networks and other works.
Project engineer in the Northern Areas Section of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, Eng. Jassim Fakhro, said that various works were carried out in various areas in the North of Qatar.
The works included constructing permanent and temporary roads with a total length of 84 km, installing approximately 746 street lighting poles, and providing more than 22,600 parking spaces for cars and buses, in addition to developing infrastructure networks, beautification and landscaping works, and providing pedestrian and bicycle paths.
Project Engineer at the Northern Areas Section of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, Eng. Saeed Al Malki, said that the works included the construction of roads in Umm Slal Mohammed and Bu Fesseela areas, the construction of roads leading to and surrounding Darb Al Saai with the provision of 2,391 parking spaces, the construction of a road serving the Naval Academy and another road to connect the resorts in Fuwairit area to the existing road leading to Al Shamal Road, and the provision of roads serving Al Shamal Service Centre and the nearby fish farm.

A road network surrounding Al Andalus Educational Complex in Rawdat Al Hamama North area has also been implemented, facilitating the connection of the school complex to Al Majd Road and Al Khor Road. Roads surrounding Al Kaaban City have also been constructed, providing a connection to the Al Shamal Road and its service road.
This is in addition to the construction of a service road on two parts of the Arab League Street, and roads connecting and surrounding the Panda House, providing a direct connection to Al Shamal Road on one side and Al Khor Road on the other.
Project works included the provision of a total of 20,000 parking spaces to serve both Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor and Lusail Stadium, as well as the provision of 285 parking spaces for buses in Lusail area.
A green park, covering an area of 22,500 square metres, was built over a rainwater collection tank constructed as part of this project.
Work has also been carried out to service Rawdat Al Hamama Park, specifically on the street bordering the park to the East and running perpendicular to Al Kheesa Street. Roadworks, lighting poles, and infrastructure networks have been completed.
Grading work has also been implemented in Al Furoush and Al Thamid areas, allowing citizens' land plots to be prepared for construction.
The project also included the construction of temporary roads and the provision of signage and road markings in various areas, including Umm Qarn, East Rawdat Al-Hamama, Jeryan Jenaihat, Al Sakhama, Wadi Al Banat, Al Khor, Al Thakhira, Umm Slal Ali, Umm Ebairiyah, Umm Al Amad, and Saina Al Humaidi.

The project also included providing traffic safety elements in various areas, including the installation of lighting poles, the provision of road signs and markings, and the provision of pedestrian and bicycle lanes. In addition, works included the installation of manholes, and beautification and landscaping works in some areas, including the planting of a total of 1,850 trees.
Infrastructure development works were implemented in various areas within the project scope and included the implementation of surface water and rainwater drainage network lines, sewage networks, treated wastewater lines, and irrigation lines.
It's worth noting that local materials and manufacturers were used for most of the project's work, with local Qatari sources used to supply materials and components such as gabbro, street lighting poles and lamps, signage, sewer and rainwater drainage pipes, asphalt layers, and prefabricated manholes. The local component comprises 85% of the project's work.
