Hathab Tour: Carport shows form as Al Ajami grabs Big Tour win

Doha: Thirteen-year-old Carport produced a flawless routine as Qatari rider Faleh Suwead Al Ajami won the Big Tour on the final day of the Longines Qatar Equestrian Tour Hathab at Al Shaqab Arena. 

Carport clocked a time of 41.99 seconds as Al Ajami won the premier 130/145 cm event of the second round of the 2019-20 season. Al Ajami won the top prize of QR8,750. 

Mohammed Sultan Al Suwaidi, astride Happy Feet, grabbed the second spot in a time of 42.18secs. Al Suwaidi won QR7,000 for his efforts.

Aslan 99 also produced a fast run with Salmeen Sultan Al Suwaidi (39.15secs, 4 faults, QR 5,250) to seal the third spot. Al Suwaidi, however, got stalled because of four faults.

Nasser Al Ghazali (What A Pleasure, 41.68secs, 4 faults, QR 3,500) and Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi (Colibri, 42.52secs, 4 faults, QR2,450) completed the top out of 20 entries.

In competition five yesterday, Salmeen Sultan Al Suwaidi guided Guilder’s Empire Of The Sun to the top spot in the 110/115 cm class. 

Guilder’s Empire Of The Sun clocked a time of 52.98 seconds as Al Suwaidi won the top prize of QR 3,750. 

Salman Mohammed Al Emadi, astride Best Of Des Forets, grabbed the second spot in a time of 54.61secs. Al Emadi won QR3,000. Mohammed Khalifa Albaker (Arselina, 55.85, QR 2,250) finished third.

Ali Mohammed Al Qadi (Charming Boy, 56.62, QR 1,500) and Mohammed Khalifa Albaker (Verona, 56.64, QR 1,050) completed the top five in a group of 39 riders.

Ali Yousef Al Rumaihi, Director of the Championship, said: “We saw exciting battles today. We saw Maryam Al Buainain, who participates in the jumping competitions, but for the first time we saw her in the dressage. We are impressed with the kind of talent that is coming through. The increase in the number of participants this season is very impressive.”

He added: “The signs are there for us to feel confident that this series will grow further in the coming weeks and months.”
