Abdullah Al Sulaiti, Managing Director of Nakilat, delivered a talk at Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) to students enrolled in the university’s Executive Master in Energy and Resources programme, in which he shared his knowledge and experience of the energy sector in Qatar.
Al Sulaiti engaged those in attendance in a discussion on current market challenges, providing students with a valuable insight into the strategic and operational work of the Qatari-listed shipping company.
Dr Antoine Hyafil, Director of Programmes for Executive Education at HBKU mentioned, “In a very engaging talk, Nakilat’s Managing Director Abdullah Al Sulaiti described how the company’s strategy developed and was implemented over time, how the attractiveness of the market led to over-investment by new entrants, and how Nakilat can mobilise its strengths to both make the most out of a difficult market and diversify into value added activities.”
“This was a perfect illustration of the topics presented during the Strategy and Operations Management module of the HBKU Executive Master in Energy and Resources and gave HBKU students the opportunity to see firsthand how what they are studying in the classroom can be applied to solve contemporary real-world challenges”.

Offered in partnership with Georgetown University, Texas A&M University, and HEC Paris, HBKU’s Executive Master in Energy and Resources program seamlessly integrates the disciplines of geopolitics, public policy, technology, finance, and management.

The talk provided students with invaluable access to current industry insights, with Al Sulaiti praising HBKU’s emphasis on multidisciplinary learning and innovative research. He commented: “Nakilat is proud to be associated with this prestigious program for the second year running. We are strongly committed to the development of a sustainable workforce and through such strategic sharing sessions, we hope to be able to inspire the next generation of leaders towards the achievement of National Vision 2030.”

By working closely with its local and international partners, HBKU seeks to be a national resource of knowledge serving government, industry, and society in Qatar. The University currently offers a diverse array of graduate programs in areas such as Cybersecurity, Data Science, Sustainable Energy, Biological and Biomedical Science, Law, Translation Studies, and Islamic Finance. The breadth of subjects students can pursue at the home-grown research University is targeted to meet the needs of Qatar and the region, with the institution dedicated to educating leaders in strategic industries and promoting a culture of national excellence.
