Minister of Justice H E Dr Hassan bin Lahdan Al Mohanadi said the launch of the Compensation Claims Committee comes within the directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani which include protecting rights of the citizens and the compensation of any citizen, who was unjustly affected by the siege imposed on Qatar.
This new step reflects the Emir's keenness to protect the rights of the Qatari people, who is facing aggressive measures, affecting wide categories and segments of the society.
In press statements on the occasion of the inauguration of the Committee's Headquarters yesterday, Al Mohanadi said the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is eager to follow up on the country's legal position on the matter, where it recently hosted a meeting with directors of legal affairs in the State, especially in legal bodies directly related to the repercussions of the crisis in order to develop the appropriate mechanism to strengthen Qatar's legal position and to follow up on the siege's damages internally and externally.
Al Mohanadi said that this would be coordinated through the newly-formed Committee, in which MoJ is a member, to review all social, economical and legal damages to citizens and various legal entities (juridical and natural persons) as a result of the illegal unprecedented measures in international relations, which are governed by multi agreements, conventions and treaties.
The MoJ is home for all Qatari specialists in legal matters and it provides all the attention and training for them, including the Public Prosecution, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) along with lawyers, the Minister stressed
In this context, the Minister said Qatar is a State of institutions, which respects bilateral and regional agreements and treaties, stressing that the crisis confirms its transparency and firm legal commitment as opposed to the siege countries, which haven't respected these agreements.
Qatar will not hesitate to take all legal arrangements to preserve its security, stability and the rights of its citizens and residents, he said, adding that Qatar will also take all the appropriate measures to achieve this goal domestically and at the international level in line with international laws and regulations, he said.
Qatar has been subjected to a systematic and unfair campaign of all kinds of abuse targeting it and its symbols, HE the Minister said, noting that these abuses are documented and would be the subject of legal action.
The Compensations Claims Committee will follow up on each case with full attention regardless of the degree of sustained damages, he explained.
By being part of the Committee, MOJ will also help in receiving, screening and following up on requests of affected parties in addition to taking the appropriate legal measures within its specified legal jurisdiction and through the legitimate and legal channels.
The Minister of Justice urged all citizens and residents not to be dragged into the defamation and abuse campaign targeting Qatar and to comply with the statements of the Government Communications Office and other official entities calling for restraint in the standoff over this campaign.
Dr Al Mohanadi noted that the Ministry is taking the appropriate legal measures to prosecute those defaming Qatar and it welcomes communication on means of backing Qatar's legal position in this regard.
