Total Research Center – Qatar (TRC-Q) recently celebrated its 10 years of excellence and innovation in research & development in Doha.
The ceremony which was held at the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) was also attended by Total’s key stakeholders. Former TRC-Q Director Philippe Julien and TRC-Q Director Yousef Al Jaber highlighted the center’s evolution and milestone achievements in their keynote speeches during the event.
Established in 2009, TRC-Q is one of Total’s seven worldwide research centers dedicated to Qatar and Middle East technical challenges. Initially focused mainly on geochemistry and carbonate reservoirs. Today the Research Center has branched out to other cross over technologies, collaborating with universities, and the medical and space domains.
Addressing the gathering, Al Jaber said, “Today, we are celebrating 10 years of innovation, excellence, and development in TRC-Q, thanks to the fruitful collaboration and partnerships we have had with our key stakeholders. Our commitment to sharing our expertise is fueled by our aim to develop home-grown solutions to our local operational challenges, thus supporting and contributing to Qatar’s vision of developing a knowledge-based economy”.
Moving forward, the research center is committing to sustainability and innovation with a clear vision of sustainable leadership, and ultimate actions.
With projects for analytical organic geochemistry and acid stimulation of wells to improve production, TRC-Q currently has flagship projects related to sustainable development, marine biodiversity, biofuels, and solar energy.
In his keynote speech, Julien who is now Senior Manager for New Ventures at Total’s E&P Headquarters in France, said, “Our strategy for TRC-Q has been the same since its inception, which is to develop innovation, and share with our partner companies. This innovation relies on building on previous work, acquired skills and expertise. We develop a real expertise that leverages the global research capacity of Total at a worldwide scale and directly benefits our partners in Qatar. And this is where R&D’s true value lies, because we develop innovations that are not available anywhere else in our industry”.
With various other research projects currently conducted in partnership with local scientific and industrial partners, including oil and gas partners, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, and Texas A&M University at Qatar, as well as international R&D organizations, TRC-Q also acts as a bridge between industry and academia to bring innovative solutions to its operations.
Christophe Eon ,Deputy Vice President HR,COMM,CSR also said, “Our partnership with universities is an opportunity to strengthen ties between the education sector and the energy industries to build strong bridges and interactions between the two in order to achieve business sustainability and innovation. This will be a sustainable initiative for the energy and environment. Our relationship strives on the shared ambition to develop sustainable solutions and support national aspirations in line with Qatar National Vision 2030”.
