Geneva: Russian athletics should be suspended from all competition, a damning report by World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) independent commission into widespread doping and corruption urged on Monday.

"The IC (Independent commission) has recommended that the IAAF suspend ARAF (Russian athletics federation)," concluded the report set up to investigate the scandal that has rocked athletics.

WADA also called for lifetme bans to be given to five Russian athletes, including Olympic 800m champion Maria Savanova, and the stripping of accreditation for Moscow's under-fire anti-doping laboratory.

WADA set up its three-man commission headed by its former chief Dick Pound to investigate a scandal that first erupted with allegations of doping first aired in a German TV documentary last December.
