Qatar Chess Association concludes 1st edition of International Junior Chess Championship

Doha: The first edition of the International Junior Championships, organised by the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), concluded on Sunday with the participation of 28 players.

The tournament, which was held according to the Swiss system of five rounds, witnessed great competition among the participants.

India's Parvan Pradeep won the championship, while Rayan Irfan from Qatar came in second place, followed by Sajjan Apple from India.

The technical committee of the tournament awarded the Qatari national team player Saad Al Sulaiti the award for the best Qatari player in the tournament, while India's Jayaditya won the award for the best player under 14 years.

In the under-12 category, Moroccan Adam Hamdouchi won the best player award, while Indian Sayed Abdel Qader won the award for the best player under ten years old.

The QCA Secretary-General, Yousuf Mohammed Al Mutawa, confirmed that the tournament left positive impressions during the five rounds, adding that the strategic plan of the QCA stresses the importance of organizing major classification tournaments to raise the level of players so that they can be able to achieve advanced positions in external tournaments.
