Doha: Qatar’s top beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan has been seeded second for the next month’s Tokyo Olympics, according to classification announced by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) yesterday.
Younousse and Tijan, who won several medals on the World Tour recently have 7,720 points, and the pair is only behind Norwegian team, who are on top with 10,960 points.
Brazil are seeded third while Poland and the Netherlands are fourth and fifth respectively.
Qatar team won the silver medal at the Sochi World Tour Championship, recently held in Russia, with a rating of 4 stars, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the Czech Ostrava tour, which concluded on Sunday.
The Qatari beach volleyball team qualified for the Olympic Games even before participating in the decisive qualifying rounds.
The team had previously won the gold medal for the third round of the Cancun World Championship, which concluded in Mexico in May, in which they won the silver medal in the first and second rounds.
