DOHA:  Qatar Chamber has participated in the first Arab-German Sports Summit which began in Berlin on Friday in the presence of President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Chamber’s delegation was led by the Chairman, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani and included board members Dr. Khaled bin Klefeekh Al-Hajri and Rashid bin Nasser Al Kaabi. QC’s Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi also was present at the event. The two-day summit identified the most important sporting achievements of Qatar.

A large number of German and Arab officials from sport, trade and economic sectors took part.

Commenting on the event in a press statement, Sheikh Khalifa praised the cooperation between the Chamber, the Qatar Olympic Committee, Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Qatar Embassy to Germany, noting that the summit was a success and achieved positive outcomes in promoting the advance achieved by Qatar in sports sector within the past few years as well as the key role played by the country in developing this vital sector worldwide and the sport projects being established in Qatar.

He stressed that the presence of Sheikh Joaan gave the summit an impetus, affirming it has been received by a great attention by all athletes and sports institutions and companies.

Sheikh Khalifa also said that the summit’s great attendance and the large Arab and German participation represented a clear message stressed the world’s trust in Qatar and its key role in world sport and its ability to organise mega global sports championship.

QC’s Chairman said that the summit constitutes a unique opportunity that helped in informing world countries on the Qatari sport and its preparations for hosting the 2022 World Cup as well as projects related to the global tournament.

He underscored Qatar Chamber’s keenness on sponsoring the summit stemmed out from its interest in promoting the developments in sport sector worldwide and informing business and sport communities on the growth of the Qatari sport sector and projects available in this sector.

On his part, QC Director-General Saleh Al Sharqi eluded the success of the summit in terms of number of attendees or topics it discussed, noting that it contributed to highlighting Qatari sport on the sport and economic arenas in Germany.

He also said that the summit attracted a large turnout of German companies willing to learn about investment opportunities available in the Qatari sport sector as well as business opportunities that stemmed out from sport championship for the private sector in hospitality, tourism, trade, investment and other services.

Al Sharqi pointed out the chamber’s sponsorship the summit stressed its interest to promote Qatar’s sports sector and identifying world business communities on Qatari sports development and its ability to attract more foreign investments.

He also underlined the media attention achieved by the summit and its role in shedding light of Qatar achievements in hosting regional and global sports events as well as the 2022 World Cup projects which are being implemented on schedule in order to be ready before the tournament conveniently.
