Qatar had joined FIEP in 2013 based on the recommendation of the French gendarmerie force and welcomed by member states. The FIEP (French acronym for France-Italie-Espagne-Portugal / France-Italy-Spain-Portugal, which are the first four “historical” members), founded in 1994, and comprised the French National Gendarmerie, the Italian Carabinieri Corps and the Spanish Civil Guard. It was quickly joined by the Portuguese National Republican Guard in 1996, then later expanded by a number of forces from countries. The FIEP is organised around a Senior Council and four technical commissions.
The Senior Council of directors/ commanding generals defines the general policy and programme for each commitment undertaken by the association. The presidency of the association is appointed annually by rotation among the directors/commanding generals. FIEP’s technical commissions follow up the work of the association and prepare the regulations and proposals presented during the annual meetings of the Senior Council.
