McNair Chambers holds arbitration webinar

Doha: McNair Chambers yesterday hosted a webinar on ‘Arbitration, International Law, and Investment Disputes’, which was attended by an international audience of hundreds of senior lawyers and government officials from more than 40 countries. 

Former Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Arifin bin Zakaria and former Chief Legal Adviser to India’s Ministry of External Affairs Dr. Pemmaraju Sreenivasa Rao co-chaired a panel discussion including lawyers from England and the Far East, which focused on major developments including increased enforcement of arbitration awards against State assets.

During the event, Professor Khawar Qureshi QC, Head of McNair Chambers presented an online review of key Arbitration, International Law and Investment Dispute cases. 

The presentation identified key trends such as challenges to arbitrators and major decisions concerning claims against States.

Qureshi said: “The trend towards arbitration is increasing and Qatar is extremely well positioned to be a regional hub for international dispute resolution. We at McNair have worked with Qatari State and commercial entities for more than 10 years on many arbitration and litigation matters. We are pleased to observe the greater familiarity with such processes amongst the Qatari State and commercial sector which will be vital for future growth and economic diversification in Qatar.”
