Qatar and Argentina to boost bilateral trade

HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, has underlined the importance of  bilateral relations between Qatar and Argentina. The recent pact between the two countries in the area of investments will open up new horizons for joint  economic, investment and trade fields, the minister said.
Sheikh Ahmed was formally opening  the Argentina-Qatar Business Forum on the occasion of the visit of Argentina Vice-President Gabriela Michetti.
The signing of the agreement between two countries in the area of  promotion is an important building block in the process of distinctive economic relations between the two countries. The Minister called for  greater joint efforts by the two countries  to take more steps to further boost the bilateral trade volume. Sheikh Ahmed  also explained how both the countries can further enhance the  bilateral trade value.
The Minister elaborated on the various policies and programmes adopted by Qatari government to create Qatar an attractive investment destination. He also stressed the need for  developing the private sector a key driver of  local economy.
During the meeting, the Argentinian delegation stated that their country has strong fundamentals to become a regional economic engine; where they started with Argentina’s large and diversified economy being the third largest economy in Latin America in terms of GDP with an estimated $ 586bn. The country is also blessed  with the vast availability of natural resources in terms of  arable lands as well as abundant oil and gas and mineral reserves  and renewable energy resources
The Argentinian delegation also stated that their country offers investment opportunities of more than $ 250bn, presented in several sectors including infrastructure ($ 135bn),energy and mining ($ 85bn), agriculture ($ 25bn), manufacturing ($ 5bn) and the services sector ($ 5bn).
The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) participated in the Argentine – Qatar Business Forum. From the QBA side, the meeting was attended by its chairman Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani,  and  the board members Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani, Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser Al Thani and. Sherida Al Kaabi; as well as QBA member  Ibrahim Al Jaidah.
