Amir Cup Table Tennis: Al Arabi defeat Al Rayyan

Doha: Al Arabi yesterday took a big step towards qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2019-20 Amir Cup Table Tennis Championship by beating Al Rayyan 3-2. 

A tense battle ensued at Preparation and Training Center in Ras Abu Aboud where strict safety and health protocols are in place for the tournament.

With this victory, Al Arabi have raised their tally to 5 points to secure the third place in Group B.  Al Rayyan are in second place with 6 points. Al Sadd with 8 points are at the top of the group. Al Sadd are already through to the semi-finals after maintaining a winning streak of three matches. 

Al Arabi will face Al Wakrah today at what is the end of the group stage matches. The winning team today will have to get 7 points from this stage to join Al Sadd in the semi-finals.

In the event Al Wakrah wins, they will raise their tally to 6 points and draw level with Al Rayyan who will qualify for the semi-finals with Al Sadd having beaten Al Wakrah 3-2 in the fourth round.

The matches yesterday were officiated by referees Saeed Abdullah Al Kathiri and Jamil Muhammad Muslim and Chief Referee Ali Abdel Moneim Nadi. Muhammad Ahmad Al-Rumaihi, Executive Director of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA), was also present. 

The final of the tournament will be played on October 12.
