Too Darn Hot was the hot favourite in the Qatar Prix Jean Prat and he lived up to the expectations by notching a stylish win in Deauville, France, yesterday.

As part of the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club’s (QREC) strategy to enhance Qatar’s presence at the world’s top racing events, the Qatar Prix Jean Prat was run in Deauville.

The 2019 renewal of the Group 1 race, reserved for three-year-olds over 1,400 metres, was the feature event of the fully sponsored eight-race day.

QREC Board Member, Ahmad Mohammed Alabdulmalik, was present at the meeting and he presented the trophies to the winners.

The Lord Lloyd Webber-owned and John Gosden-saddled winner barely broke sweat. Given a very good ride by Lanfranco Dettori, the colt stormed home in the final 400 metres and won with any amount in hand.

It was the colt’s first win since taking the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr1) as a juvenile. It also marked the colt’s return to 1,400 metres, having been tried over longer trips when his stamina was found wanting.

Following Enable’s victory in the Gr 1 Coral Eclipse at Sandown, UK on Saturday, the duo, Gosden-Dettori made a quick-double fire by landing the Gr 1 Qatar Prix Jean Prat at Deauville, France yesterday.

Frankie Dettori lauded Too Darn Hot’s performance.

“He has a lot of speed”, he said.

“He really picked up the pace when asked to quicken. I think that he will stay a mile on a flat track. We will mull matters over with John Gosden, but I’m of the opinion that a race such as the Prix Jacques Le Marois would suit”.

The day included two listed races and the James Tate-saddled Far Above was the winner of the first of them; namely Qatar Prix Kistena. It is his third win in his four career starts and his first listed success so far.

Al Shaqab Racing’s Duhail was the runner-up under jockey Vincent Cheminaud for trainer A. Fabre.

The winning jockey, Patrick-Joseph (PJ) McDonald said: “He’s a very good horse and has so much speed. The initial pace wasn’t strong enough for him. However, once he got going, I knew I was going to win.”
