Twenty artworks by ten Qatari female artists are on display at an exhibition entitled “Fingers that love art” which recently opened at Katara.
The works were the outcome of a workshop organised by Girls’ Creativity Centre in collaboration with Qatar Fine Arts Society and conducted by Kuwaiti artist Khalid Shatti.
The ten Qatari artists, among them were Iman Al Hajj and Fatima Al Mannai, produced two works each.
“In each exhibition we see some development and progress in the quality of works created by the Qatari artists. This only shows the fruits of the efforts of Qatar Fine Arts Society for the advancement of the art movement in the country,” said Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti.
Dr Al Sulaiti opened the expo along with Qatar Fine Arts Society Chairman Yusuf Al Sada and Girls’ Creativity Centre Chairperson Mona Al Sulaiti,
“Katara is always keen to enrich Qatar’s art scene as well as support Qatari artists to present their best either in local or international exhibitions,” Dr Al Sulaiti added.
Al Sada said the Society welcomes cooperation with any art entity and stressed youth centres play an important role in supplying talent in the creative arena.
He said those who finished the workshops from the Girls’ Creativity Centre will immediately join the Society and enjoy the many benefits of being a member such as assistance in putting up solo exhibitions and taking part in local and international exhibitions.
“Qatar Fine Arts Society is always keen to diversify workshops in all fields of fine arts. We are working to attract expertise of local and international art trainers,” added Al Sada.
Mona Al Sulaiti thanked the Qatari Fine Arts Society and said she was satisfied with the outcome of the workshop as shown by the artworks showcased at the exhibition which reveal the talent of the participants.
During the workshop Al Shatti taught the artists how to use watercolours and the importance of using them as well as improvement in speed in drawing.
“The aim of the workshop is to develop the skills of the artists and help them participate in local, regional and international exhibitions. The participants have distinct artistic vision and the creative ability to stamp their mark in the world of fine arts,” said Al Shatti.
A well-known Kuwaiti artist, Al Shatti is an accredited international trainer and a member of Kuwaiti Association for Fine Arts and International Association of Fine Arts. He has participated in many exhibitions and won international awards.
