Nasser Al-Khelaifi
French football’s major stakeholders have congratulated and shown their support of Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi on his nomination as ECA representative on the UEFA Executive Committee. Noël Le Graët, President of the French Football Federation, announced: “I am very pleased about Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s election. The presence of Paris Saint-Germain’s chairman on the Executive Committee can only be a bonus.”
Nathalie Boy de la Tour, President of the French Professional League (Ligue de Football Professionnel), said: “At a time when European competitions are crucial to the development of French football, I am delighted that France has consolidated its place within the UEFA Executive Committee. I am sure that the presence of Florence Hardouin and Nasser Al-Khelaifi will enable us to better coordinate our messages for the harmonious development of competitions and European football. I would also like to congratulate Aleksander Ceferin on his re-election, as he will be able to continue the mission he embarked upon two years ago.”
PREMIERE LIGUE, the association of professional French clubs, stated: “Première Ligue is delighted about the election of Nasser al-Khelaifi, chairman of Paris Saint-Germain, onto the UEFA Executive Committee as a representative of the ECA.
“This election is a reward for the relentless work he does for French football and his constant commitment to developing European football.
“Première Ligue is also delighted that Florence Hardouin has been re-elected onto the Executive Committee for the next four years. It is recognition of her remarkable involvement in all of European football’s major dossiers. With these two representatives, Première Ligue is convinced that France’s voice will be even better heard on the international stage.”
This election is an acknowledgment of Nasser Al-Khelaifi's work at the helm of Paris Saint-Germain over the last eight years and as part of the Executive Board of the French Professional League since 2015. Nasser Al-Khelaifi will represent the clubs’ interests at a crucial time for the future of professional football in Europe, marked by the emergence of new media and the overhaul of European competitions.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “First of all, I want to congratulate the President of UEFA Aleksander Ceferin on his re-election. I would like to thank again my esteemed colleagues at ECA for trusting me to represent them on the UEFA Executive Committee. It is a great honour and, together with ECA President Andrea Agnelli, we will continue to work closely with UEFA to develop professional football in the interests of all stakeholders.
Today was my first UEFA Congress and it was extremely informative. The figures presented have shown an impressively balanced structure between clubs and national associations. I was also struck by all the inspiring work done by UEFA‘s departments, and the way their Foundation promotes football for young people in difficulties. They are fantastic programmes and ideas to help move our sport forward. I am happy to be part of this great football family today.”
With this new European mandate, Nasser Al-Khelaifi will maintain the commitment to promote football that he has shown as Chairman and CEO of Paris Saint-Germain since 2011 and as Vice-Chairman of the French Professional League (LFP) since 2015.
